As your personal safety you need to wear masks and gloves when handling mildew infested clothes.

To avoid washing machine stinks, set the manually brushed clothing under the sun to dry so that the remnants of the molds will be killed and will be easily removed later on. After it has completely dried up, soak it in cold water then prepare a basin full of hot water and detergent. Wash the brushed clothes in this basin and dry it up under the sun again.
